OSU sophomore ROTC cadet Emily Self survives avalanche & helps rescue 4 others while skiing

One day during winter break, when much of the OSU community was relaxing at home, Army ROTC cadet Emily Self was frantically digging people out of the snow after an avalanche overtook her party while skiing in Canada.
OSU has new bowling team
Oregon State University has a new collegiate-level bowling team, one of only two in the Pacific Northwest, along with University of Washington. The team has just completed its first competitions in January, winning against UW in the Columbia River Rivalry, and then last weekend, competing in two collegiate tournaments in Las Vegas.
Where in the world is Forestry student Jill Aire? Spain
Jill Aire is a third-year natural resources student in Oregon State University’s College of Forestry, specializing in ecological consciousness and sustainability. With her degree, she intends to work in international forestry. She spent last summer at a university lab in Spain researching soil recovery after forest fires in the region.
Where were you working?
I was at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha in Albacete, an hour and a half south of Madrid in Spain.
What language is spoken there?
Spanish.
OSU bioengineering researchers send cardiac tissue cells to space to test effects of low gravity

As part of a larger research grant, a bioengineering student and professor at Oregon State University sent three types of cardiac cells on a recent SpaceX resupply mission to the International Space Station.
The materials orbited for 21 days in November, and once they return to OSU in mid-December, the researchers will study the effects very low gravity (microgravity) had on cell growth and health.
