Per the OSU Promotion and Tenure Guidelines, being granted indefinite tenure “ensures the academic freedom that is essential to an atmosphere conducive to the free search for knowledge and the attainment of excellence in the university.” By providing permanent employment, the university “reflects and recognizes a faculty member’s potential long-term value to the institution, as evidenced by professional performance and growth.”
“This year’s honorees are members of our scholarly community who have achieved excellence in teaching, research and creative work and service,” Provost Roy Haggerty said in a university-wide email on May 20. “They’ve prepared undergraduate and graduate students for career and lifelong success, advanced knowledge in their disciplines, engaged communities beyond Oregon State to help solve big problems and engaged in innovation and entrepreneurship.”
